Small businesses depend on reliable connectivity for voice, video, cloud applications, payments, and everyday operations. HPE Networking Instant On Cloud Portal 3.4.1 adds practical tools that help administrators protect the performance of important traffic, understand WAN quality, and manage supported networks with less complexity.

This release introduces Quality of Service configuration, enhanced WAN historical insights, and more flexible load balancing. It also expands the cloud management experience for HPE Networking Instant On 1840 and 1940 Switch Series, including capabilities designed to improve power continuity, security, and operational visibility.

Keep critical applications performing with Quality of Service

Quality of Service, or QoS, helps administrators prioritize important traffic when network bandwidth is limited. In Cloud Portal 3.4.1, traffic can be assigned low, medium, high, or very high priority, while independent upload and download limits of up to 1 Gbps help prevent a network or workload from consuming more bandwidth than intended.

Administrators can apply QoS broadly at the network level or more precisely through policies for selected applications, networks, or client sources. Policy-based QoS takes precedence over network-level settings, providing a practical way to protect the traffic that matters most—an example below

Guest Wi-Fi sharing the WAN with business apps

·         Guest networks share the same network as business-critical applications in the case of a conference.

·         Guests streaming video can saturate the link and degrade business traffic unless their share is capped and de-prioritized.

How to configure

·         On the Wireless network’s Quality-of-Service tab, set the network’s priority to Low and cap its bandwidth as needed.

·         Add a Policy on the network to forward or allow business-critical applications such as Video conferencing, Presentations, livestreams, payment gateways, and set the priority as high to mark matched traffic.

·         As policy, QoS takes precedence over network QoS; guest traffic will be deprioritized compared to the video conference applications.

QoS is available for supported sites with HPE Networking Instant On Secure Gateways, access points, or 1840 and 1940 switches. Secure Gateways can prioritize network traffic and set WAN bandwidth limits, the 1840 and 1940 series can prioritize LAN traffic, and access-point-only sites can apply QoS to wireless networks.

See WAN performance more clearly

Enhanced historical graphs provide clearer visibility into WAN latency and packet loss over time. Latency indicates how long it takes traffic to make a round trip to its destination, while packet loss shows the percentage of transmitted data that does not arrive. Together, these measurements help administrators identify degradation, correlate connectivity issues with outages, and troubleshoot recurring problems using evidence rather than guesswork.

Use dual WAN connections more effectively

For sites using Active/Active WAN load balancing, Cloud Portal 3.4.1 provides more control over how traffic is distributed between primary and secondary links. Administrators can adjust the weighting with a simple slider instead of relying only on an even 50/50 split. This makes it easier to use a higher-capacity primary connection more fully while retaining the additional bandwidth and resiliency of a secondary link.

More value from the 1840 and 1940 Switch Series

The latest generation of HPE Networking Instant On switches can be managed through cloud sites running version 3.4.0 or later. With Cloud Portal 3.4.1, customers can take advantage of a broader set of capabilities across supported models:

·         Quick PoE powers critical devices, such as access points, as quickly as possible while a supported switch starts.

·         Always On PoE helps connected devices such as surveillance cameras remain powered during supported soft reboots and upgrades.

·         Enhanced security for the 1840 series includes access control lists, port security, and RADIUS authentication.

·         SNMPv2 read-only monitoring is supported on the 1840, 1940, and 1960 series, giving administrators another way to monitor switches while continuing to manage the site through the Instant On Cloud Portal.

Health Event Updates and SNMPv2 monitoring

Health Events now provide clearer, more consistent guidance for applicable network issues across the web portal and mobile app. Updated descriptions explain the observed symptoms, likely causes, and recommended actions, helping administrators understand what happened and take the appropriate troubleshooting steps faster. The update improves the guidance shown to users without changing how health conditions are detected or triggered.

Cloud-managed HPE Networking Instant On 1840 and 1940 switches also support SNMPv2 read-only monitoring, along with the 1960 series. This allows businesses to include Instant On switches in supported third-party network monitoring platforms and view device health alongside other network infrastructure. Authorized users can retrieve a device token from the portal Support page to enable or disable SNMP locally, while switch configuration remains managed through the Instant On Cloud Portal.

Smarter management for growing businesses

HPE Networking Instant On Cloud Portal 3.4.1 gives small and medium businesses more control over application performance and WAN resources without making network management harder. With flexible QoS, clearer WAN insights, improved dual-WAN control, and expanded support for the latest Instant On switches, administrators can make faster decisions and deliver a more consistent experience for employees, guests, and connected devices.
