Instant On Cloud Portal R3.2.1 is here! Powerful new features for the Instant On Secure Gateways

We are excited to announce the release of the Instant On Cloud Portal software version 3.2.1.  It has powerful enhancements that mark a significant leap in how small and medium businesses manage their network security, connectivity, and automation.HPE Networking Instant On 3.2.1 Cloud Portal

One of the key highlights of this release is full support for the new HPE Networking Instant On Secure Gateway SG1004 and SG2505P models. It brings a fresh wave of AI-powered intelligence, advanced WAN features, and simplified security workflows that make enterprise-grade networking even more accessible for SMB’s.

A quick reminder: to take advantage of the latest features introduced in R3.2.0 onwards, make sure you have downloaded the latest mobile app version from the Android or Apple store.  If you currently use a version older than R3.2.0, uninstall the app from your mobile device and reinstall the latest application, as the older versions are incompatible with the newest updates.

Let’s take a closer look at what’s new in 3.2.1.

Secure Gateways just got smarter

With this release, the cloud portal fully supports SG1004 and SG2505P Secure Gateways, along with a smarter way to secure your network using the power of AI.

The AI-Powered Network Policy Assistant is now integrated directly into the cloud experience. Whether isolating IOT devices, segmenting guest traffic, or prioritizing applications, the assistant ensures security policies are easy to implement even for non-technical users. Key benefits include reduced configuration time, fewer human errors, and confidence that your network policies align with the best practices.  With the AI assistant, setting up and maintaining security became dramatically simpler.

WAN failover and load balancing: Always stay connected

In today’s digital-first world, downtime is not an option. That’s why we’ve added WAN failover and load balancing capabilities to the gateway lineup.

Now you can connect multiple WAN links to your gateway. If your primary link goes down, traffic will automatically switch to the backup, ensuring uninterrupted connectivity for business-critical operations. Even better, with load balancing, you can distribute traffic across links to optimize bandwidth usage and reduce latency. Whether you are a café, co-working space, retail store, or a remote site, connectivity is secure and highly reliable.

Automatic threat detection and prevention

Security threats evolve fast, but your gateway is designed to adapt. Version 3.2.1 brings automated threat detection and prevention to the forefront, helping you to stay ahead of malicious activity without needing a dedicated security team.

This new capability scans inbound and outbound traffic in real time, looking for patterns of suspicious behavior. When a potential threat is detected, it is either automatically blocked or flagged for an admin review, based on the severity of the threat. Real-time protection includes malware and phishing resistance, exploit kits and web specific applications vulnerabilities detection, anomaly-based intrusion alerts, and more.

The system periodically automates updates to the threat signature database, providing a set–it–and–forget–it protection layer that’s perfect for small and medium businesses.

Site-to-site VPN made easy with domain-based setup

Connecting multiple branches or remote locations has always required some networking expertise – until now.

With the latest update, we have simplified site-to-site VPN setup using domain-based configurations. Instead of routing complexities, you can define peer sites using easy to remember domain names. The Cloud Portal takes care of the rest.

Whether you are connecting to a remote warehouse, a secondary retail location, or a smart workplace environment, secure communication is just a few clicks away.

Additional enhancements for a smoother experience

Beyond the major updates, version 3.2.1 also brings many usability improvements to make everyday tasks quicker and more intuitive. These enhancements were shaped by customer feedback, so thank you to all the partners and users who continue to help us build a better experience.

With 3.2.1, we are making a big leap forward in how Instant On empowers small businesses to run secure, resilient, intelligent networks, with minimal complexity.

We can’t wait for you to include Secure Gateways in your network, especially if you are managing multiple sites or branching into secure remote access. Your feedback continues to shape our roadmap for the next release.

Until then, explore the new tools, stay protected, and connected.

Hi All,

Let me share my opinion about R3.2.1. I can see progress, but:

I don't know why there is no detailed “timeline” view in the LAN and WAN panels, as there is for the HEALTH panel,

There is also no report on WAN1/2 port load; if I use WAN Redundancy, I would like to know what the port load is,

I also lack quick access to information about data transfer from AP. This information can be found, but I would expect it to be available, for example, in the Topology view. This would help quickly identify the most heavily loaded AP and make changes to the network.

Toon wrote about safety, so I won't say anything here because nothing is known. Either you trust it or you don't use this equipment.

I have already written about support for LACP. There is something in the documentation, but it is not visible in the system. It's a shame, because 1Gb/s port aggregation would give the 1930 switches a “second life” I mean a connection with an aggregated 2x1Gb/s link between the gateway and the switch.

Overall, I see great potential in R3.2.1 and agree with Toon that it is a “beta” product with potential that has yet to be revealed ;)

Ehhh, I see they forgot a lot of things :)

Robert,

I checked and I do not see the option to enable LACP on the gateway. I do see it on a switch. It could be they forgot the feature on the gateway.

Does anyone know if the sg2505p supports lan port aggregation? I found the following information in the documentation.

Power Management
Power management options allow you to configure PoE supply to devices connected to the gateway. One SG2505P gateway supports PoE. These options are unavailable for ports that are part of LACP.
Is it possible to understand more that the sg2505p supports LACP? Does anyone know if this is true?

Gentlepeople,

I just recently reinstalled one of the sites with this gateway in it (a sg2505).

The Good:

  • The gateway is on the same pane of glass as the rest of your network
  • It filters out things it deems "critical"

The Bad:

  • You can not select to filter out major security treats or any other level. Its an binary choice for filtering out critical only or no filtering at all.
  • There is no geo fencing possibility
  • Still haven't found out how to set up a client to site or a site to site VPN
  • THERE IS NO LOGGING for the firewall rules (neither allow nor block logs are available)

The Ugly:

  • As it stands now the product is FAR from being ready to launch for the public.
  • It lacks critical firewall functionality
  • It isn't even capable of replacing a pfsense or even a decently configured iptables

I really hope this product will be upgraded with new essential firewall features so it can be at least called some sort of gateway.

  1. Logging ( half what firewalls are build for) !?!
  2. Geofencing
  3. Granular controls to filter out "Major" and "Minor" threats, not only "Critical".

This product was imho far from being complete enough to be pushed to market.

Hi All,

The description encourages you to use it, but :) The setup is simple if you have a new network, but if you are replacing an old router with a new one, it's not that simple and AI won't help ;)
Overall, everything is OK for the first few days of use, but one thing really annoys me. I use two ISPs, so I enabled “Load Balancing Active/Active”. But any change to other network parameters automatically switches to the default setting “Active / Standby Failover (default)”!

So remember, if you use load balancing, the last thing you should do before logging out is to check the settings :)
I miss the view in Portal R3.2.1 that shows a summary of the most important network parameters. It's useful! Instead of clicking in multiple places to check the settings.
