Smarter, more secure, and more flexible than ever

The latest HPE Networking Instant On Cloud Portal 3.3.1 update delivers new tools to make network management simpler, smarter, and more secure – without interrupting your operations. Designed to give site administrators greater flexibility and visibility, this cloud-only update introduces enhanced Secure Gateway deployment, customizable DHCP ranges, wired guest networks for switches, and new monitoring and policy capabilities. With no hardware firmware updates required, users can enjoy these improvements instantly and keep their Instant On environments running smoothly with zero downtime.

Replace or update Gateways

As noted in our community, some administrators have requested the ability to replace a Secure Gateway device (SG1004 and SG2505P) with a dissimilar Instant On gateway. The gateways can now be swapped with automatic port mapping and preservation of VPNs, VLANs, policies, and profiles. This option is found in the Device management screen of the Secure Gateway. The most common replacement would be shifting from an SG1004 to 2505P as this upgrade may increase available LAN ports, PoE capability, and WireGuard client support. DHCP Range enhancements

Some administrators require more flexibility when setting up their network and DHCP range, and often customers are migrating from routers that are at a different base address than x.x.x.1. In this update, admins can now set the default IP address and DHCP range for the network. With a Secure Gateway installed on the network, go to the Network IP Assignment setting in the cloud portal to configure your IP subnet assignments. The default is x.y.z.1. DHCP block can be configured to use either the entire subnet or a subset of the subnet, and static IP address will work with assigned subset of IP addresses

Wired guest network for switches

Wired guest networks can be configured on Instant On switch ports in addition to guest wireless networks and gateway wired networks. This feature adds another layer of security when providing visitors with access to the internet, while blocking access to local networks. Authentication options including open access, password, or guest portal via RADIUS for this new wired guest network feature. There is now a “Guest” category in the switch wired VLAN network in addition to employee and voice networks. Admins or operators will then configure guest networks on a wired port for the switch either tagged or untagged for guest access.

Policy enhancement MAC Address Support

Policies can be applied to individual clients by manually entering MAC addresses. Supported formats include colons, hyphens, or no separator. This means site admins can allow or block specific MAC addresses from accessing wired or wireless networks. You will be able to add additional clients to the policy you created if there are new client devices you onboard at a later date.

Remote Client VPN watchlist

VPN Clients can be added to a watchlist and from the client management page. Event notifications will be sent when the VPN client is added or removed from the watch list and Alerts will be sent when the VPN client goes online or offline. This helps administrators ensure their remote clients are connected and aid is proactive support for these remote clients.

Port traffic usage

Administrators and operators can now view the previous 24 hours of data usage per port on Instant On switches. This data is available at the switch level and now can be viewed on the port level. Simply select a port on a switch under the Devices tab to view the download and upload data use as well as total packet information. This is helpful in monitoring IoT devices where their data use is hard to identify and see if they are causing a slowdown on your network bandwidth.

The Cloud Portal 3.3.1 will begin rolling out early November and will be applied at your site’s assigned update window.
