  • 1.  How to request a Feauture Request which actually gets implemented

    Dear moderators/ HPE Aruba Employees,

I have a question about requesting feauture requests.
What is the procedure? Is there a procedure at all? If so is there also a roadmap?
Reason for this is that i see tons of people requesting feautures, but my feeling is that very few get implemented.
Mostly about the cloud managed option, as the local management does have all these feautures.
We are an MSP in NL with Enterprise (Aruba Central/Netedit) and SMB customers(InstantOn).
For our SMB customers we are replacing all the AOS 2530 and Instant AP's for InstanOn gear, but run in certain issues for example for monitoring and the fact that SNMP and syslog are not available, when cloud managed. Which for an MSP is crucial in term of effiency and maintenance.
As the bar for security requirements raises in general also for SMB's, they are confronted with implementing ISO27001, CIS Controls, NIST or for NIS2 compliancy.
There is the case of audit log management with is part of these requirements/frameworks. But most of the simple feautures for logging are not available when cloud managed.
So i don't understand (and i think with me a lot of other MSP's) why don't you make these basic simple options like SNMP monitoring, syslog, auditlog trail available when cloud managed, and not sell them of as Enterprise feautures.

    Best regards,
    Bob van de Merwe

    1.  Know that "cloud first" in general is "Security Last" and when a product and platform shift due to marketing pressures (to simply and dumb down features) it's a failure.
    2.  Know you have to reverse engineer if you can synthesize these features using an older AOS on premise it will be less interesting to HPE Engineering Development to bake them back into the "cloud first" product.
    3. A Feature Request may take months so unless it's confirmed in preliminary conversation with the OEM it is not going to occur.
    4. A local VPN to an actual enterprise collector like SOAR/SIEM could be configured to replace the missing features but it would require maintaining several softwares and dashboard for logging compliance. That's extra sprawl, workflow, training, costs. makes reporting difficult, makes security incident management more problematic and slower.
    5. Know that as an OEM shifts to "cloud first", it's past customers will leave to replace its previous working products with other products from a different vendor.  As a curtesy, if the OEM or its agents are positioned to listen, let them know why you left the product and switched to another OEM.   However, don't expect them to listen, OEMs make decisions for products based on bean counters not security.

InstantON is a different Product Line and unfortunately Innovation Zone has no category for it. For now only way to request the new features is via forum.
