  • 1.  Issue with Vlan and connecting to internet.

    Posted 19 days ago

    Hello all,

I am seeking assistance with a network configuration issue involving VLANs. I am currently using a TP-Link ER605 router, which supports VLAN configuration. I have successfully set up my VLANs on the router, and when I connect directly to it, I am able to access the internet without any issues.

The problem arises when I connect the ER605 to an Aruba Instant On 1930 8-Port PoE switch, which is also linked to several AP-11D access points. I have configured corresponding VLANs through the Instant On app, but the VLANs do not appear to communicate properly with those set on the router. As a result, my wired devices are unable to obtain internet access through the switch ports.

Interestingly, wireless clients connected via the APs are assigned IP addresses (not linked to vlans) and can access the internet without issue, but when i link the wifi with the vlan i do not get internet from the wifi, indicating that there is something wrong with the vlans setup or router setup.

I have attempted multiple troubleshooting steps, including rebooting the system and reviewing my configuration settings, but I have not been able to resolve the issue. I would greatly appreciate any guidance or support to help identify and correct the problem.

Thank you in advance for your assistance.

    Ramon

Hi, you will probably need to contact HPE and have a support tech review your configuration - you likely do not have tagging configured correctly.

Get out of the mobile app and log into the portal. Not only will you increase visibility into your configuration but there are some mobile screens that do not prompt for verification to save if you accidentally change something (like radio settings, IIRC). Tagging has little buttons, so use the web portal not the app! I basically just use the mobile app for checking on things as I have been burned by accidentally changing things and not getting prompted to save the change. :-(

Assuming the ER605 is correctly configured.... I think what you want to do is to set the untagged network as the network you actually want THAT device to use/get its IP address for, and then tag the OTHER network(s) that you want to pass traffic through. You may need to do some experimentation. I have all 1830 switches except for one 1930 switch (not the main switch) so it took me a little while to figure this out through trial and error. Now when I need to do something, I look at what I previously configured.

I hope this helps, but as I said you may need to contact HPE support and screen share for access. I will bet money it's not configured correctly.

Figure it out with the help with support. tagging issue. once resolved everything started to come back up. i mix up "tag" and "untag" that was the issue.
