Subject: 802.11ax WiFi6 HPE Best Product Select IAP vs Instant On - non cloud non internet private WLAN ONLY
Thanks, joined.
Same question was asked over there and it's in moderation jail again. One follow-up what if I had a local HPE Aruba L3 switch that ran DHCP with a table of static reservations and a route 0. 0. 0. 0 0. 0. 0. 0 to itself (switch IP Gateway) so no client would try to go to internet that did not exist? Could I use the two letter APs? Switch would have one vlan and subnet with all the IoT wifi and Lan.

Hi,
for your information, Instant On APs are named with 2 digits (i.e AP22, AP32, etc.). These APs need cloud connectivity as mentioned.
As for the AP505/AP515 and AP535, I would refer you to the Airheads Community in order to get an answer: https://community.arubanetworks.com/home

Thanks for reply Instant On Would that be the AP11/AP22/AP24/AP27/AP32? Can they use a USB A or USB C cellular broadband modem?
What about the Aruba IAP 500 Lineup like AP505/AP515/AP535 (or how about the new 600 or 700 series product Lineups?)
Could a small HPE L3 POE L3 switch run a private DHCP for the WLAN without Internet?
But years ago, it was native, and "controllerless" If this feature is still working a HPE ARUBA IAP virtual controller seems to run DCHP Server controllerless mode on

Hi Independent,
I can confirm Instant On APs require cloud connectivity. There is no stand alone mode for Instant On APs.
Hope this helps.

Looks like no one in this group active. ? Separately I confirmed Juniper would require an EX-Switch because the Juniper IFI6/7 APs don't tun stand alone. However, they had a post that a Virtual AP IAP Aruba could MESH with them and give them DHCP. Anyone know?
I did pre-confirm CommScope/Ruckus may have a stand-alone "unleashed" SZ Private WLAN mode, but they are not easy to get info out of either.

802.11ax WiFi6 Product Select IAP vs Instant On
Which product between HPE Aruba AP505/515/535 vs AP32/AP25/AP22D best matches these features:
- Supports private WLAN in the middle of nowhere without internet no cloud no cellular hotspot and just run a IAP or Instant on configuration upon power?
- Supports rapid boot up and loads its own DHCP Server with its own IP MAC DHCP reservations for IoT wired LAN Ethernet Gear and a few Wifi6 DHCP Clients on the same DHCP subnet?
- Best supports radio spectrum congestion from other non-meshed SSIDs and Smartphone traffic unrelated? i.e. smartphone/5Ghz avoidance?
- Best supports cardioid radio coverage on a 10ft pole? (with beam forwarding)
- How to set the IP-Gateway, should internet WAN port be admin down? How to keep it from trying to join other MESH it should not?
- If known does Juniper do better controllerless or not at all, use HPE?
