  • 1.  AP22D WiFi performance issue with 2 of 3 APs,, but embedded Ethernet ports are fine

    Posted 19 days ago

I have 2 AP27, 2 AP25 and 3 AP22D devices. The AP27 and AP25 devices perform as expected, and ONE of the AP22D devices performs as expected. This is only an issue over Wi-Fi.

The performance issue with TWO of the AP22D devices is most noticeable when I try downloading files from a website. (i.e. TCP.) Local pings fluctuate between double digits and high triplet digits. (i.e. ICMP.) Again, this is only an issue over Wi-Fi.

I have spent quite a bit of time troubleshooting this. e.g. Cables, switch ports (they're POE), the embedded Ethernet ports on the AP22D devices, swapped locations (which means they're plugged into different AIO POE switches), etc. I have tried removing and re-adding the devices. I have tried resetting via paper clip while powered on, as well as while powering up. So it's not an interference issue, because the issue stays with the devices.

I noticed this problem a few months ago and have not yet reported it to HP support. I recall last year before I became a customer in July, that there was a thread here from someone very upset that they weren't achieving expected performance and felt they were getting ripped off. I've searched for the thread and cannot find it.

At this point in time, I feel that two of my AP22Ds have hardware issues, because I am confident I have excluded all other potential issues.

Is anyone else experiencing this issue?

I have one site with 3x AP22D's - powered by PoE from a TP-Link managed switch - which are on firmware 3.1.0.0 and I need to reboot them pretty much exactly after 20 days.

Reason: All 3x Samsung TV's in the house simultaneously showing a 'Network Issues' popup as they're connected to the AP22D's wirelessly.
And that's pretty much every 20 days just the beginning. iOS devices can't connect anymore, HP printer shows offline, etc. etc.
After rebooting them all one after the other they're fine again for the next 20 days.

As we can't see any CPU or memory statistics - there might be an issue there?

The issue with AP11D was on wired side. Wireless was ok.

There was no issues on AP22D as I remember. I do have it a bunch and none of them experience the issue you are describing. Better call the support than trying to guess what is wrong. It can be many things not excluding HW failure.
