Instant On - Wireless

I'm considering buying three AP25s for my home network.

My home network consists of a MikroTik Router and MikroTik switch, but I want to define VLANs as a trunk port on the MikroTik and broadcast the VLANs to two independent SSIDs on the AP25s, one per VLAN. This means the Aruba Instant On is used for Wi-Fi-only while MikroTik is used for routing/NAT. Is this possible?

I could use MikroTik for the Wi-Fi, but MikroTik APs do not allow meshing and don't have a lot of capacity. I don't want consumer-level routers like Eero or Orbi, and UniFi is not an option for various reasons.

Yes, this is not a problem. You can assign a SSID to a VLAN of your choice while creating the WiFi network (and change it later if needed). Please note, as far as I know the management VLAN is always VLAN 1, needs to be untagged/native and needs to have internet access. The switchport needs to be configured with VLAN1 untagged and VLAN xx tagged for your additional SSIDs/networks (or in Aruba CX language as trunk with vlan trunk native 1 and vlan trunk allowed XX for your additional SSIDs).

Of course you need to configure your router accordingly.

Thanks for your replies. I did actually buy an AP25 many days ago, just before the Amazon price increased.

So far, the AP25 is faster and more reliable than our old Orbi which was slowly dying. While I'm aware Instant On isn't a true enterprise setup, a single AP25 had lower latency than two Orbi, and streaming actually works.

Indeed Instant On is working really well, even if it's not 'enterprise' grade, it's more 'enterprise capable' than one would think. In your case you could even use an Instant On AP as router in a 'router mode' setup.
